Altea Pharma is a Swedish pharmaceutical company specialising in the development, introduction, and commercialisation of Value Added Medicines in the Nordic region. Altea focuses on identifying and launching pharmaceuticals and medical devices that are not yet represented in the Nordic markets, either as entirely new therapies or as improved versions in the form of new strengths, dosage forms, or innovative combinations that add clinical or practical value for patients and healthcare providers.

Our ambition is to strengthen access to effective and modern treatment options in the region. Through careful selection, regulatory expertise, and close dialogue with the healthcare sector, we ensure that more patients gain access to solutions that address real medical needs.

In addition, Altea drives the development of its own products in collaboration with strategic partners. Altea’s goal in product development is to improve existing treatment options and address areas of unmet medical need within the Nordic healthcare system.

HISTORY

Behind every company there is a story. For Altea Pharma, it begins with the name, which holds special significance for the company’s founder.

The name Altea comes from the founder’s grandmother, whose name was Altea. When the company was founded, the ambition was to create a name that not only had a personal connection, but also reflected the company’s operations and values. It turned out that, in addition to the personal connection, the name Altea has an interesting and fitting history. The name Altea dates back a long way and naturally relates to health and pharmaceuticals.

The name originates from the Greek word althos or althaia, meaning healing, to cure, or physician.

The name is also linked to the Latin Althaea, which is the scientific name for the plant genus hollyhocks. Historically, these plants have been associated with healing properties and used in traditional medicine, which further strengthens the connection between the name Altea and health.

For us, Altea symbolises more than a name. It represents our commitment to developing and making available pharmaceuticals and medical-technology solutions that contribute to better treatments and improved quality of life for patients. It connects our history with our future and reminds us of what matters: creating value for patients.
